I tried to give an account of the day by day events of my life, but even that was a lie. You don't hear about my classes, about every meal, about every event. Only those that marked me and were of potential interest for you.
But there are periods of time in my teenage years where the most interesting thing might have been passing a test or going to the movie theater with my family.
Sure, it might be interesting to tell such stories, but it's not what I want to talk about. I do have other things than naturism to talk about, such as me gaining in maturity, discovering who I am, reconnecting with my parents, making friends, and my hormonal growth process.
So, I will need to do time jumps, and this is the first one of them.
This time jump lasts from that weekend of September until before the Halloween weekend. It's not a huge one. I only have two more pubic hairs, for example, but this period was important for Mindy.
This is the time period in which Mindy and Billy began dating. Sure, you saw them meeting and everything pointing to them forming a couple, but that next Monday, at lunch with Edith and me, Mindy realized that she was going too fast.
Sure, they were both naturists, but what else did they have in common?
I think that both Edith and I realized how superficial this match was. Mindy had a crush, sure, but she had others and didn't act on them. The difference was the common interest.
"But he loves video games too!", says Mindy.
"Almost every guy loves video games", explained Edith, which we all realized, was true enough.
So, Mindy took her time, and yet, during the time jump, managed to officially both take it slow and reach the destination of being able to call him her boyfriend and him calling her his girlfriend.
Edith and I were center stage for the play by play at lunch break, but honestly? It was nothing to really write about. All I have to work on is second hand information. I did see Billy, and, mostly, Mindy with Billy, but it's not like the landmarks of their relationship were occurring in front of my eyes, you know? It was when they were alone, or with their parents. Like the first meal where Billy was invited as Mindy's boyfriend and not just as a friend, I wasn't there. Even if I decided to tell you about it, I don't have enough details. I don't even know if they ate outside, at the picnic table or inside the house. I don't know what they ate or if it was good. Only that Mindy was nervous, but her parents were welcoming. I also know that by then, Edith was more accepting of the relationship.
Speaking of Edith, I wasn't invited to Mindy as often now that Billy was taking my place. He didn't get sleepovers in Mindy's bed, but his father and him rented, well, our cabin. I am not insulted at all, we probably would never return to it now that we have a camper. It's not like our name was on it.
I did spend a Saturday afternoon with him also present. We played pinball, we played Mario Kart, and we hung out, which basically meant Mindy and him cuddling as much as their parents allowed and me feeling like the third wheel, especially when parental supervision was temporarily on hold and the young couple decided to kiss.
Did I mind? Of course, I did. Mindy was my best friend and Billy was stealing her away from me. I did go to one of his soccer matches, Mindy invited me several times, but it was often when I couldn't. It was fun, but I admit scanning the crowd to try and spot Lucy and Clark, to no avail.
I also went once to Mindy's house on a Friday evening for a sleepover, without Billy being present. That was nice. Really nice. We connected like we did in earlier pages. We talked about school, about Edith, about Lucy and Clark, and we exchanged ideas around my rules of cool. I did pen a few more in that period while observing the cool kids at our school, but it's hard for me to remember which ones they were when not telling the actual story.
See, my memory is associative. If you ask me a specific question about a past event, I won't be able to answer. But get me talking about the event, and I will get to your question.
Sometimes, it helps me with exams, but usually the process is too slow. Like, remember that bicycle ride? I spend 6 days taking notes and going back to the events in the deep recesses of my mind.
For the Pinball game? I missed some details, so I sort of worked around my memories to form a coherent story. Is some of it fictional? Of course! But they are all secondary to what I was trying to convey. Did you get the impression I was spending the first time in my life really connecting with older teenagers and feeling like I was part of their crew? Did you feel like I did when I was then, looking up to two incredible people with social skill, lots of cool and everlasting love for each other?
If so, I succeeded. The actual rules of the pinball machine are not critical. It's only the setting. The stage, if you will.
But Mindy being busy wasn't all bad for me. Remember when I said that three girls is a crowd or something like that? That often, one of them is set aside?
Well, Mindy did that to herself.
Edith, Mindy and I still ate at school together, but see, school ends earlier than parents usually finish working, so while Billy discovered there was a bus from his school to Mindy's house and Mindy discovered there was a bus to Billy's house, Edith realized she was much more at ease at my place.
My parents practically adopted her and after 2 or 3 evenings, no longer made a big deal out of her being with us.
The three of us were usually nude, but Edith stayed clothed. Her mother, when picking her up, simply drove in our driveway and would hook her horn once, waiting in the driveway.
It infuriated my father, but Edith reminded him of two things. One, she was impossible to talk to, and two, her ringing the doorbell at random times of the evening meant stopping all nudity, all the time.
The reality was that it was impossible to predict when Edith's mother would arrive. In fact, twice, Edith had a sleepover, not because she wanted to, but because her mother didn't make it to our home, as if she forgot Edith.
She called the first time and didn't bother the second after the failure of the first one.
The third time, my father got dressed and dropped Edith. Not because he didn't want her home, he was starting to be fond of her, my mother too, but just so that Edith wouldn't feel abandoned.
I honestly think that this ship had sailed, but that's another story.
After that first evening, Edith sneaked clothes to our house so she wouldn't have the walk of shame of wearing the same clothes twice in a row at school. I did offer my clothes, but I was far too small, and my mother too slim.
Right, I don't want to fat shame Edith, but you know, my mother is simply slimmer. Let's leave it at that.
I think Edith seriously got used to our nudity, to the point where one evening, when I noticed that my parents were upstairs and not downstairs, and dressed instead of nude, I stayed clothed and Edith and I went to my room.
She was worried... something was breaking her routine. As it turns out, my parents simply received a visit from the bankruptcy attorney or something for the camper. Everyone had agreed on the settlement and the camper was now officially ours.
After the attorney was gone, it's Edith who reminded us that we could undress, but my father didn't and instead, went to pick up pizza to celebrate. I want to say it was Domino's but honestly, I think it's me just projecting my currently favorite pizza place with the joyous moment. Yes, I am that basic of a girl to have Domino's as my favorite pizza place.
We played some volleyball as a family in the backyard. Wait, am I counting Edith as a part of the family? I guess I am. At that moment, she was spending almost more awake moments at my house than at hers and was almost a sister to me.
She helped me a lot with my homework, but oddly enough, I was able to help her too, especially in English where she often had problems with understanding reading assignments.
I learned to braid her hair and she offered to reciprocate but I didn't like that. I still don't.
Oh, I almost skipped on something important! Edith had a crush on a boy in mid-October. He was a guy that both Mindy and her knew, but I hadn't met yet. Edith was shy around him, and Mindy was head over heels for Billy so in the end, I was often the third wheel when Edith would try to get close to him.
Try, is the operative word! But I was there when he rejected her, and my parents got Edith her favorite ice cream which we ate on the living room floor, while playing Animal Crossing.
We would trade remote and the ice cream spoon.
Fine, it wasn't a big container, it was one of those Ben and Jerry pint ones, and we ate directly from the container. If I recall, back then it was the Chocolate Peanut Butter Split. The reason I am hesitant, is that a few months later, in what will most likely be the next time jump, her favorite ice cream will be Everything but the, which is even more decadent.
So yeah, we both ate with the same spoon, in the same container. She was like my sister! It's not like I was thinking about germs and what not and my parents didn't bother saying anything. Perhaps because they decided to do the same thing with the pistachio pistachio one, their favorite.
Now, I have to clarify that. It's my parent's favorite in the sense that if they both want the same one, it's the one they will pick. No argument, no hesitation. But it's my mother's 3rd favorite one, and my father's second!
For my mother, the top flavor for her is Strawberry Shortcake followed by Strawberry Topped. Yeah, my mother loves strawberries! For my father, it was the Salted Caramel Almond which my mother hated with a passion I rarely saw in her. In fact, each time he would buy some, she would tease him at his lack of taste with zero explanation.
That they settled on pistachio is bonkers to me, but then again, who am I to judge? I like that one too.
In fact, between you and me... I have rarely met a tub of ice cream I didn't like. I mean, It's ice cream! Frozen yogurts are another story. I am a lot more critical of them.
Sadly for Edit however, weekends were usually boring. Her mother was home and would criticize her if she wanted to come to my house because she "already spent too long there already during the week", but she wouldn't do anything with her daughter.
A few times, we met at the public library, but since her mother was always an unpredictably lift, we couldn't bolt and get to my house. Still, in addition to meeting rooms where we could talk for hours, there were books to read and even a few board games we would play.
Once, her mother even arrived a good hour after the library closed, so I waited for her outside. It wasn't that cold, but I wouldn't say it was warm that evening.
Her mother actually made a scene about the fact that I was there, but Edith stood up for herself.
"I called her when I was seeing you weren't picking me up and she came to keep me company, to make sure I was safe"
But her mother would have none of it. Edith was grounded, and yet, on the next Monday, she came to my house and was picked up by her mother without saying a word.
No, Edith and I didn't speak about that. Not then. Years later, I learned more but I am keeping that under wraps, in case I decide to talk about it in a later chapter.
Oh, and I am definitely stupid about not telling this next thing. Remember how my dad got us to be floating lot members of the resort? This means that we get empty lots, basically. Not a fixed one, and they can move us at any time.
Well, it took two weeks to get a hitch installed on the car, during which we cleaned up the trailer. We were in theory ready to get to the resort, but the bankruptcy was not cleared yet so we couldn't actually feel safe moving it. If we had an accident and the bankruptcy didn't clear, we would be in trouble.
But then, it did clear, so we wanted to head up to the resort, but well, it's that weekend where Edith's mom arrived an hour after the closing of the library. Did you spot why we didn't go to the resort? It was one of the coldest weekends of October for our area due to a front moving it from the north. It's why I wasn't at the resort that weekend.
The next one we went, and it was... uneventful. Seriously. Lucy and Clark weren't there, and Billy wasn't there either. I played video games with Mindy, we swam in the heated pool, and we did homework. I know our parents played a few Wii sports games together, but we weren't actually invited to play with them, in part because they have a limit of four players. Still, Mindy and I connected but let's be honest, it was mostly superficial. She was elsewhere, she was exploring her relationship with Billy, and now, was sad he wasn't available.
The next weekend would be more fun, but get what? It's outside the time jump! That's convenient, isn't it?
Ok, fine, that first weekend might have been interesting outside the time jump, but in part I didn't want to bore you with the details of the installation of the camper, and all of the problems we had with it, and in other parts, I didn't care to write them because, well, it was mostly my parent handling it. Not me.
